How do you create a blog with Squarespace?

It’s common knowledge that a quality blog post, that hits all the SEO boxes, is the best way to drive traffic to your website. Forget what industry you are in, a doctor, an actor, or a supplement company? You can all take advantage of the power of blogging to target your perfect customer.

Make sure to watch our walk along video to get a more precise visual look at the process.

Step 1: Create a new page

The first step of creating your blog is creating a new page, ensuring not to simply press blank page. You need a specific page called “blog” which you will find under ‘website>pages>add new page (+)>and blog.

You will have a choice of different templates, take your pick, name your blog and we can get started with your very first post on your website!

Step 2: Create your first post

After deleting all default posts, creating by Squarespace. Under the content section of your new blogging area in the portal. You are going to want to press ‘create new blog’(+).

Although I want to give you as much information as possible, this post isn’t an SEO guide to show you how to get visitors, but I’ll tell you the basics.

Basics of Search Engine Optimization (SEO).

By no stretch of the imagination am I an expert, I design stunning websites that drive conversions. To actually get that traffic I suggest learning it yourself or getting a pro in. But to be quite honest, there isn’t much to it.

SEO really comes down to what Google wants to show their audience, there are a few things that determine this.

  • How fast your page loads (ideally less than 2 seconds)

  • Clearly structured website (H1, H2, H3 used in a consistent way).

  • Use of keywords throughout your page (likely most important).

To find the perfect keywords a great first practice is asking yourself, what is my audience searching for? If you are a social media marketer, some ideas to use in your blog could be, “increasing followers on Instagram”, or “growing my LinkedIn account”.

Use these keywords in the title, and a few times each throughout the body of your post to really get noticed by search engines.

I suggest really digging deep, and using tools such as google keyword planner to dig deep.

Step 3: Provide value/sales

In the actual body of your article, really focus on being helpful and solving a problem for them. Think about it, if you actually solve their problem and they read your pitch at the end of the post how much more likely will they be to use your product or service?

Really study your audience and what ‘Monday morning problems’ they come across in their day-to-day life. My audience often struggles with the stresses of inconsistency of revenue or unreliability of staff. So that is where I put my focus.

On top of that, you should genuinely care about your audience and want them to succeed! That is the secret.

Bonus Step: Remember your design eye

Don’t fall into the trap of, as it’s not your home page, you don’t need it to look good. Your blog posts can bring in just as much traffic as your home page, and can often be the first impression of your product or service.

Here are a few things to remember when creating your blog post for style:

  • Keep your body clear and well structured (H1 as your title, H2’s as your individual steps, as well as H3s for little bonus steps along the way.

  • Use your own images or a premium stock image service rather than generic platforms like Unsplash (people can tell what a stock image looks like).

  • Great use of colour.

  • Animations.

  • Buttons as CTA’s, rather than linked text.
