3 Ways to improve your web site as a business owner
Business owners need to realise something vital about having a website! If it isn’t of a certain quality, you are better not having one.
If your web site’s layout is all over the place, has no real branding to it, and is darn right boring you will do the opposite to your desired goal of converting those leads into money signs, as it if you can’t even be bothered to put time or money into your website, why will you provide them value?
Hello everyone, my name is Jacob Chivers, and I am a Squarespace website designer. The goal of this post (and video - click here), is to give you business owners the knowledge you need to do that extra 20% to your website, to make it pop that much more.
Attention to detail
So many take the small things for granted: font, color schemes, animations. When really they are the most important part, as these are what psychologically tell the human brain that you care. I always get a little dopamine rush, every time I see a little text animation, as it shows that the business has taken time to code that feature for the optimal user experience. Now if that doesn’t scream value, I don’t know what does.
So ready to take your web site to the next level? Let’s dive right in…
Tip #1: MAKE IT CLEAR AS CRYSTAL
Your website needs to be crystal clear. Everything about it must be easy to navigate, especially if your goal is driving sales. Any step out of line, or that makes the sales funnel just slightly more complicated than it needs to be could be losing you hundreds of customers each month!
Here are a few questions to ask yourself, when making your web site as clear as possible:
Do you have a CTA within view as soon as the client opens the page (desktop and mobile)?
Is your payments or services page appear in your navigation bar?
Has the information throughout your site been done strategically and optimized to flow well?
If its a no to any of those questions, it’s time to get to work!
Although I know it takes time, and a lot of you business owners are very busy with your day to day responsibilities, it doesn’t need to be such a nightmare. I am here to help, book a call with me today to see how we can work together.
Tip #2: Design for TRUST
Trust is all I ever talk about on this website, its because it is so vital to remember. You need to let your website speak for itself without the use of text. You need to show credibility by showing that you have spent time on your square space website.
There are many ways you can achieve showing credibility through the use of design, I’ll list just a few here for you. But make sure to check out my most recent video for a more in-depth guide.
Layout is key: Have you 1) Planned the website’s layout beforehand? And 2) Ensured both the copy and images flow well?
Have you got an established brand logo, colour, and font? If not I recommend researching both colour and font psychology; As for the logo, it’s better to be simple than super complicated, you can achieve this yourself within an hour or 2, or simply hire someone on Fiverr.
Quality images, hire a photographer for a couple of hours to make your web site stand out from the rest in your industry. Show you have really invested in your platform.
Tip #3: Focus on your audience
Time and time again, I see businesses design for their own eye, and not for their client. This is obviously a big mistake, but with a couple of hours getting to understand your ideal clients, I promise you could potentially grow your conversion rates exponentially.
I recommend 2 different practices. The first one I recommend is very well known and I would say is a necessity for getting to understand your ideal customer. The second method to achieve this for your web site, is less known, but I believe it to be just as important for getting an understanding of what your customer really wants.
Method #1) Client Avatar
Ever read the book DOTCOM Secrets, by Russel Brunson? Well it is one of the best books I ever read, and it dives deep into: 1) How to truly understand your customer, and 2) How to use that information to get more leads for your business, through your sales funnel.
Let me break it down for you quickly here. Get out a pen and paper and describe who your favourite customer would be. What is his/her name? What does he/she look like? Which car do they drive? Where do they work? What do they do for fun? How many kids do they have? And so on…
The more information you have about your avatar, the easier it will be to drive conversions, as you will know how to make them tick, get them excited and drive them to make that sale!
Method #2) Customer feedback form
Now this is simple, just set up a google form asking some important questions about what your past clients thought of your product or service (this is a practice I even use to this day). You can use this information to make decisions about how to best target your prospects on your web site.
Conclusion
Thank you for reading along today, I hope that I achieved my goal of providing you with the knowledge to take your website to the next level. There will always be a learning curve, and it will take a few late nights to get it perfect, but with the time and dedication to learn a platform like Squarespace, it will all be worth it.
